OURView Prognostic Panel (OPP) is a predictive tool that selectively measures clinical, morphological, and biomolecular factors associated with prostate cancer to provide patients with an enhanced risk assessment of their condition.

The OPP score is derived from mathematical models and based on weighted proportions of significant quantitative and qualitative factors. This report consists of a multiplex analysis incorporating proven biomarkers, pathologic indices, and clinical features.

Apart from stage, currently the strongest predictor of lethal prostate cancer is Gleason Grade, a measure of the degree of differentiation of prostate tumor cells. Gleason Grade remains one of the strongest clinical predictors of prostate cancer progression.

OURLab's fifteen year experience in assigning Gleason Scores to thousands of specimens, along with our internal quality control and review procedures, gives OURView a unique expertise in evaluating this important factor influencing risk assessment.

Prostate cancer is very heterogeneous and often multi-focal disease. It is difficult to assess the aggressiveness of the underlying tumor when biopsies sample only a portion of the tumor and may not sample the most aggressive of several tumors present. For this reason the OPP is limited by sampling constraints as more aggressive tumor may not have been sampled by the biopsy procedure. It must be used in conjunction with patient/physician consultation.

Given that prostate cancer is currently overtreated, the urologist-patient consultation team may find it prudent to treat aggressively only when aggressive tumor characteristics can be identified, and choose active surveillance when more indolent cancer is suspected. Biopsies of less aggressive tumors will have OPP scores less than 50, and be identified in the lower risk section of the OURView diagram.

OPP Provides a Specialized Prognosis Score Based On:

  • Clinical Assessment
  • PTEN Analysis
  • Gleason Grade
  • Proliferation-Ki67
  • DNA Ploidy Determination

Our full color image reporting with pathological analysis by highly trained pathologists puts the best information available at your finger tips and lets you inform your patient of the graduated risks, discuss treatment options and develop a time line to pursue these options.
